Azeez sendiri mahu berbaju lokap, bergari ke mahkamah, kata SPRM

Former TH President Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim appeared in a purple-coloured suit and defiantly before the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today, as per his own request. The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Agency (SPRM) stated that Azeez had consulted with SPRM officers, the police escort and his own lawyer to wear his customary garb and not to use the distinctive garb while being taken to court.

"However, he is adamant to maintain his garb and the distinctive clothing until the corruption case is completed," he said in a statement. SPRM emphasized that the use of the distinctive suit and garb was not by direction or request from the anti-corruption agency. The agency also asked all parties not to speculate or spread inaccurate information regarding the matter.

Earlier, Azeez, 60, admitted to not being guilty in the Sessions Court for the charge of misusing his position to gain a post as president and benefits from a company. He was charged under Section 23(1) of the SPRM Act 2009 and could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to five times the amount or value of the benefit, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

If convicted, Azeez must post a RM450,000 bail with two guarantors and report to SPRM every three months.
