‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Presales Hit $50 Million 3 Months Before Release

Marvel Studios' upcoming film "Avengers: Doomsday" has shattered expectations by reaching $50 million in box office presales just three months before its release, potentially surpassing the record set by "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." Disney Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston revealed this milestone at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, attributing the surge in excitement to the Marvel fanbase.

Among the advance ticket sales, 70% were for premium formats labeled with the Infinity Vision, aimed at directing Marvel enthusiasts to alternative formats beyond IMAX, specifically for the screening of "Dune: Part Three" in December. Following the blockbuster success of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," which has grossed over $2.4 billion worldwide, "Avengers: Doomsday" is set to release in December, facing stiff competition for box office space against other Marvel titles like "The Incredibles 3," "Frozen" sequels, and "Avengers: Secret Wars" in 2027 and 2028.

The movie's trailer has become Disney's most-watched in history, and viewership on Disney+ for Marvel Studios' films saw a remarkable surge of over 200 million hours in August. With "Dune: Part Three" and other holiday releases in theaters, Disney is grappling with limited space for "Avengers: Doomsday." However, if momentum persists, the film could challenge the $360 million domestic opening weekend record of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and the $1.2 billion global opening record held by "Endgame."
