APC chairman Yilwatda begins two-week leave ahead 2027 elections

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has embarked on a two-week vacation outside Nigeria, stating it is necessary for rest, rejuvenation and reflection following what the party deemed an "exceptionally demanding and eventful" first year of his leadership. This decision was announced in a statement released on Wednesday, signed by Abimbola Tooki, the APC's Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy.

Yilwatda's break is seen as an opportunity to recharge and prepare for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Since taking office, he has focused on strengthening the party's internal structures, organizing the National Convention, and conducting primary elections across various levels. The party described these accomplishments as significant milestones that have solidified the APC's standing as Nigeria's leading political force and one of Africa's most influential organizations.

The statement clarified that Yilwatda's temporary absence should not be misconstrued as disengagement from party activities. Instead, it is intended to allow him to step back briefly, rest, and reevaluate his strategic approach to the party's future. During this period, the National Working Committee will continue to operate in accordance with the party's constitution and established procedures, ensuring uninterrupted progress.

Once back, Yilwatda plans to utilize the time to reflect on the party's trajectory, address emerging challenges, and finalize plans for the National Working Committee Retreat. This retreat is crucial for evaluating the party's journey thus far, identifying future obstacles, and formulating strategic plans for the demanding electoral season ahead. The retreat will also reinforce coordination within the NWC, ensuring the party remains well-prepared to face the challenges of the upcoming elections.
