Another Microsoft team admits it’s struggling to handle flood of AI-generated code

Microsoft's Edge team has admitted that the surge of AI-generated code is overwhelming their review process. The team's post revealed that rapid adoption of AI-assisted coding has led to more developers building, iterating, and submitting extensions. While this has enabled faster extension creation, it has also strained the team's review pipeline, causing an increase in the time it takes to review extensions.

In response, Microsoft has introduced automation for repeatable validation checks and streamlined the review process. This change aims to identify known policy violations and security issues more consistently, allowing reviewers to focus on complex cases that require human judgment. While the Edge team insists that their review standards remain unchanged, this move is part of a broader effort to keep up with the increasing volume of AI-generated extensions on the Edge Add-ons site.

The team expects this automation will help approve and update extensions more quickly, enabling high-quality extensions to earn recognition sooner and providing developers with faster feedback on their work. Additionally, Microsoft plans to refresh the "Featured" badge for extensions that meet best practices every 15 days, providing users with a more up-to-date view of quality extensions.
