Amazon sued over treatment of pregnant workers

Amazon.com is facing a proposed nationwide class action lawsuit alleging systematic discrimination against pregnant employees. Four former warehouse workers claim the retailer routinely violates federal and New York labor laws by denying basic accommodations, firing them for missing work, and demanding medical documentation. The complaint, filed in Brooklyn, New York federal court, states Amazon is one of the country's largest employers and should ensure the health and well-being of its pregnant workers.

Amazon denies the allegations, stating it provides pregnancy-related accommodations to tens of thousands of employees and approved over 99.9% of requests in the last year. The lawsuit seeks lost pay, benefits, and an injunction against discrimination. Amazon has a history of employee treatment complaints, including those related to unionization. This is the second lawsuit against Amazon in 2023, following a similar case in New Jersey.
