2027: Nwifuru won’t surrender to political theatrics, sponsored attacks — Ebonyi Govt

The Ebonyi State Government has declared its intention to remain focused on governance ahead of the 2027 general elections, dismissing what it called "political theatrics, sponsored attacks and staged protests." Governor Francis Nwifuru, according to the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh, is committed to delivering on his mandate and implementing his People’s Charter of Needs agenda.

Omebeh accused unnamed political interests of attempting to replace facts with propaganda and distract the administration from its development agenda. He urged Ebonyians to disregard these "orchestrated distractions" and called for constructive criticism based on facts and concern for the common good. The government recognized citizens' constitutional right to peaceful protest and legitimate criticism, but warned against exploiting these rights to mislead the public or create tension.

Recent media publications, social media narratives and protests against the administration were seen as attempts to distract attention from infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers' welfare, rural development, human capital development and empowerment projects. Omebeh challenged critics to visit the communities, inspect the projects, and speak directly with beneficiaries of government programmes, asserting that the evidence of governance was visible across the state.

The Nwifuru administration remains open to legitimate criticism and constructive suggestions, but cautioned against allowing oneself to be used as an instrument in political campaigns aimed at destabilising the state. The administration's performance should be measured by its impact on the lives of residents rather than the volume of criticism it generates.
