2027 budget: Ministries begin presentations in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Government has announced that the emphasis in the 2027 budget will continue to be on Human Capital Development, with a focus on agriculture, health, and education. Commissioner of Planning and Budget, Hon Muktar Ahmed Monrovia, stressed this point during the budget defense presentation in Kaduna.

Hon Monrovia stated that the budget would serve as a consolidation of the developments in the past three and a half years. He also highlighted the introduction of a new budget line for Early Child Development, which will cater to children aged 0 to 5 years. This addition aims to strengthen Human Capital Development efforts.

Social Protection, security, and infrastructural development will maintain priority status in the upcoming budget, aligning with Governor Uba Sani's goal of securing the state and supporting underserved populations. Hon Monrovia emphasized that his administration has made significant strides in security during the past three and a half years, and these policies and programs will continue into the next budget cycle.

Agriculture has been given priority in the 2027 budget due to a survey revealing that Kaduna State has over one million out of the 42 million farming households nationwide. To support smallholder farmers, the Governor has distributed free fertilizers and improved seeds in the past three years. Additionally, the rural transformation agenda seeks to connect farms to markets, which will enhance the local economy and decrease rural-urban migration.

The Commissioner noted that this budget will be the fourth in the Governor Uba Sani administration and marks the final budget cycle of his first term.
