2 new suspects arrested in the January 23 mass abduction/murder of Sinaloa mine workers

Almost nine months after the January 23 kidnapping and murder of at least nine Sinaloa mine workers, two new suspects have been apprehended, both linked to the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, according to the Defense Ministry. The arrests were made in a joint operation involving the Defense and Security Ministries and the Special Operations Group of the Sinaloa state Public Security Ministry.

The detainees, identified as Ángel Gabriel "N (a)," also known as "Tronco," and Milton Yair "N," are suspected of possessing firearms, ammunition, drugs, and tactical gear during their arrest. The bodies of nine workers were found shortly after their abduction, while the tenth remains missing. President Sheinbaum ordered a massive search involving over a thousand agents, but no leads were found.

This is not the first time suspects have been apprehended in the case; on June 2, Gabriel Nicolás Martínez Larios, known as "Gabito," was arrested and is believed to be the "regional boss" of Los Chapitos. Initially, the kidnapped miners were thought to be members of the rival Los Mayos criminal group.
