12 arrested after blocking First Lady motorcade in Siaya

Twelve suspects were arrested in Siaya after a group of unruly youths attempted to block the route of a convoy carrying the First Lady Rachael Ruto on September 8, 2026. The incident occurred following a women's economic empowerment event at the Siaya KMTC grounds. While the convoy traveled towards the designated aircraft drop-off site, a group of rowdy individuals allegedly breached a secured gate, obstructed the convoy, and threw stones at the police officers stationed at the entrance.

Swift action by law enforcement officers restored order, leading to the arrest of 12 suspects. These suspects are currently being held pending their arraignment, as investigators continue their inquiries to identify and prosecute any additional individuals involved in the incident. This event is the latest in a series of similar occurrences where individuals block roads for monetary gain.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) emphasized that while citizens have the right to peaceful assembly and expression, violence, obstruction of lawful operations, and attacks on police officers will not be tolerated. Those who engage in such disorderly conduct will be held accountable according to the law.

In a separate incident, a TikTok connection allegedly turned into a sinister trap, targeting unsuspecting young women. Forensic investigations have traced the suspects to Ruai, where they were apprehended. During the search, detectives recovered six mobile phones and two hooded jackets used to conceal the criminals' identities. The suspects have been identified by five victims from separate incidents in Buruburu, Embakasi, and Ruai, suggesting a potential larger criminal network.

The DCI has warned the public, especially young people, to exercise caution when interacting with individuals met online. They advised against meeting strangers in secluded or isolated locations and instead suggested meeting in safe, public settings with a trusted person aware of one's whereabouts. The post underscores the importance of vigilance in the digital age and the potential dangers lurking behind seemingly innocuous online connections.
