Zverev romps into quarter-finals as Darderi downed

Top seed Alexander Zverev advanced to the US Open quarter-finals on Monday after defeating Italy's Luciano Darderi in straight sets. Zverev, who had previously faced five-set matches in the tournament's opening rounds, dominated Darderi 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7/3) in 2 hours and 30 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The victory provided a welcome break from his marathon first two rounds, which ended before midnight.

Zverev, the 29-year-old French Open champion, was in complete control, punishing Darderi's weak service game to seize an early 3-0 lead in each of the first two sets. Darderi, who has never advanced past the fourth round at a Grand Slam in his career, managed a brief rally in the third set, using powerful forehands and breaking Zverev's serve four times in the 11th game.

However, Zverev's superior service ensured he would be the sole victor in the tie-break, clinching the match with his 13th ace. Zverev expressed satisfaction with his consistent performance, particularly his exceptional execution in the third set, which led him to face Dutch veteran Botin van de Zandschulp in the quarter-finals.
