Wontumi campaign team endorses John Boadu in NPP national chairmanship race

The campaign team of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, has announced its backing for John Boadu in the National Chairmanship race of the NPP. Denise Okyere Danso, the administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team, made this announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. She stated that the campaign has transitioned from an independent bid to supporting Mr Boadu’s candidacy, utilizing its grassroots network and organizational resources.

The decision was reached after discussions with grassroots members, party elders, and other stakeholders, aiming to foster unity and alignment within the party. Mr Danso cited a visit to Chairman Wontumi in Nsawam on September 4, 2026, as a factor in the endorsement. He explained that this alliance would leverage Wontumi’s grassroots mobilization capabilities alongside Boadu’s deep understanding of the NPP’s administrative structures.

The decision, according to Danso, transcends personal ambitions and is primarily aimed at strengthening the NPP ahead of the 2028 general election. He emphasized that internal divisions could undermine efforts to rejuvenate the NPP and return it to power. The campaign intends to prioritize the party’s collective interests over individual aspirations, warning that such divisions could hinder the NPP’s recovery.

Danso urged all regional, constituency, and polling-station coordinators within the Wontumi network to shift their focus to Mr Boadu’s campaign. She also encouraged current supporters and volunteers of Wontumi to view this endorsement as a shared responsibility, actively promoting Mr Boadu. The alliance aims to bridge grassroots mobilization with institutional party management, creating a robust organizational framework for the NPP.

Danso pledged that the campaign would uphold "unity without bitterness," stressing that the internal electoral process should remain free from insults, intimidation, or personal attacks. She called for candidates and their supporters to engage in a competitive and respectful contest, preserving party relationships and preventing long-term divisions.

Danso is confident that this new alliance will bolster the NPP’s support base, restore member confidence, and enhance the party’s preparations for the upcoming 2028 elections.
