In Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, appliance rentals are popular for short-term leases of less than a year. Platforms like Rentomojo offer a variety of items such as air conditioners, washing machines, water purifiers, and refrigerators. Air conditioners start at ₹1,263 per month in Mumbai and ₹900 in Bengaluru, while washing machines start at ₹391 per month.

The 11-month rental option is particularly noteworthy as it aligns with the 11-month lease agreements commonly used by landlords in Indian apartments to avoid registration requirements for longer leases. This rental option is not available in Maharashtra due to Section 55 of the Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999, which mandates registration for all leave-and-license agreements.

Professionals frequently relocate within a 5-10 kilometre radius for rental agreements, even within cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, driven by rental agreements, rent increases, and job mobility. Each plan includes a refundable security deposit of one to two months' rent. The costs of appliance ownership extend beyond the listed price, including annual servicing and gas charging for air conditioners, and annual servicing for washing machines. Rentomojo offers appliance rental plans ranging from 3 to 36 months, with home delivery within 48-72 hours of order confirmation.

Their plans include maintenance, repairs, and relocation services. While pricing is not uniform across cities, Rentomojo's listings for a 6 kg semi-automatic washing machine range from ₹391 per month in Delhi and Gurgaon to ₹1,449 per month in Noida, and 1-ton to 2-ton split air conditioners vary in cost depending on the model and configuration.

Competitors like Furlenco, Cityfurnish, and Rentickle offer similar services in the same markets, with varying pricing and deposit requirements based on city and configuration. The shift towards an 'appliance-as-a-service' economy in Indian metros reflects the changing preferences of young professionals who define living and working differently.

Rentomojo's success is built on the growing need for flexible, rental home solutions in urban India, where consumers frequently move homes within months of purchasing new items. Founded by Bamania, Rentomojo operates as a direct-to-consumer platform catering to India’s mobile urban population, offering over 227,500 live subscribers across more than 27 cities and filing a DRHP in March 2026.
