WhatsApp Working On Letting Non-Users Join Calls, 'Guest Call' Feature Likely To Launch Soon

WhatsApp is reportedly developing a guest call feature that would allow non-users to join calls directly through a web browser without downloading the app or signing up. The feature would build on WhatsApp's existing guest chat functionality, extending it to voice and video calls. Currently, non-users cannot join WhatsApp calls at all, and this feature is expected to close that gap by enabling connections between WhatsApp users and non-users.

To use the feature, hosts would generate a call link from the Calls tab, select the type of call, and share the link with participants. Recipients without a WhatsApp account could join the call as guests by opening the link in a browser, eliminating the need for an app download or account creation. The host would have the ability to manually approve every guest's request before they could join, providing control over who enters the call.

Once a call is underway, hosts would retain full control over participants, including the ability to add or remove guests and end the call for everyone.

The upcoming feature is expected to carry end-to-end encryption, ensuring the security of guest calls in line with WhatsApp's current calling infrastructure. However, the feature is still under development and has not yet been made available for testing. It is anticipated to be rolled out as part of a future WhatsApp update.
