We had to meet a deadlines – GFA explains decision to reappoint Carlos Queiroz

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has quickly reappointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars to meet critical deadlines prior to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum revealed that the decision was expedited as the association needed to commence preparations by sending invitations to players for the upcoming matches.

Ghana's qualifying campaign begins on 24 September against Ivory Coast in Bouake, followed by a match against The Gambia three days later. Carlos Queiroz, who initially took charge of the Black Stars on a short-term contract in April following Otto Addo's dismissal, has now agreed to extend his tenure. Despite some contractual and administrative matters still being finalized, Queiroz expressed his willingness to continue in the role.

Asante Twum stated that the remaining issues were minor and that the coach had already begun preparations for the AFCON qualifiers, likely to announce his squad before traveling to Ghana. Ghana faces a formidable qualifying group, including Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Somalia, with the objective of securing a spot at the 2027 tournament in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
