USA At “Ramstein”: Allies Must Be Prepared For Ukraine Aid To Be Needed For Months And Years To Come

Deputy Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby addressed allies at the start of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, held in Ramstein format. He emphasized that Russia's war against Ukraine could be prolonged, and European partners must prepare for sustained aid to Kyiv. Colby stated that President Trump's goal is lasting peace, but they cannot predict when the war will end, as Russia is rebuilding its forces and defense-industrial capacity.

It is crucial for allies to be ready for a long conflict and for Ukraine's needs to continue for months and years. Supporting Ukraine's urgent battlefield needs, such as munitions and critical assets through the PURL initiative, is vital to prevent further Russian advances. Additionally, Europe should plan for sustained procurement to support Ukraine's long-term restoration of forces and its own defense needs, ensuring that European investments complement American ones.
