US says Houthis must bear consequences of their aggression

The US Embassy in Yemen has declared that the Houthis "started this conflict and must bear the consequences of their aggression," reinforcing the legitimacy of Yemen's recognized government and Saudi Arabia's right to self-defense. The embassy stressed that the Republic of Yemen is the sole legitimate authority, empowered to safeguard its citizens and terminate Houthi assaults.

It noted that Saudi Arabia is entitled to protect its sovereignty and populace, alongside supporting Yemen's duly elected administration in putting an end to Houthi terrorism. The European Union expressed deep condemnation of the assaults on civilian and economic facilities in southern Saudi Arabia, which resulted in the injury of 73 civilians, among them women and children.

The EU reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia and extended its heartfelt wishes for the full and prompt recovery of the wounded. The EU described the attacks as a grave escalation, in violation of international law, undermining regional security and stability, and jeopardizing the prospects for a peaceful resolution of the Yemeni conflict.

It urged the Houthis to cease all hostilities both within and outside Yemen, including attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea, and to adhere to UN Security Council Resolutions 2722 (2024) and 2826 (2026). The EU emphasized that peace and stability in Yemen are vital for the security of the Gulf region and the Red Sea, reiterating its dedication to collaborating with the United Nations, regional partners, and the international community in pursuit of de-escalation and a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable peace.
