Two arrested over suspected cocaine seized at Wa bus station

Two individuals are currently in police custody in the Upper West Region following the seizure of suspected cocaine at the ESP bus station in Wa. The arrests occurred on separate occasions as law enforcement, in conjunction with National Security operatives, continued their investigation into the suspected trafficking of illicit drugs through the region.

The first suspect, known only as S.K., was apprehended on September 6, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m. upon his arrival in Wa by commercial bus from Kumasi. Allegedly found with a bag containing substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, S.K. was subsequently taken into custody, reportedly making phone calls to individuals believed to be involved in the distribution of illicit drugs shortly after his arrest.

The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, confirmed the arrests to Joy News, stating that the substances would undergo forensic analysis to determine their exact composition. He cautioned against drawing conclusions until the analysis results were available, noting that the case remains under investigation.

Two suspects are presently in custody, and investigators are working to ascertain whether additional individuals are connected to the case. The substances seized are suspected to be narcotic drugs, but confirmation will only be possible after forensic examination. The suspects are expected to face court as soon as the investigation concludes, with the police emphasizing that they will not be detained beyond the legal timeframe.

The identities of the two suspects and the quantity of the seized substances have not been disclosed. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by security agencies in the Upper West Region to combat the trafficking and distribution of suspected narcotic drugs through commercial transport routes connecting Kumasi and northern Ghana.
