Tinubu mourns loss of presidential media aide

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sorrow over the passing of Mr Peter Onwubuariri, who served as the Assistant Director of Media at the Presidential Villa and previously as the North American Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Onwubuariri's death, resulting from a prolonged illness, is mourned by the Presidency, NAN, the media community, and the nation, according to a statement released by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu highlighted that Onwubuariri had been with the Presidential Villa since 2014, serving under three different administrations. During his tenure, the journalist covered vital national and international matters, including foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics, and finance. He also praised Onwubuariri's sound judgment and deep understanding of the relationship between government and the media.

Prior to his appointment at the Presidential Villa, Onwubuariri excelled at NAN, rising through the ranks to become an Assistant Editor-in-Chief. The President emphasized that Onwubuariri's contributions to journalism and NAN's editorial operations showcased his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to his duties. "Peter was a dedicated journalist and a committed public servant whose professionalism and calm disposition earned him the respect of his colleagues and associates," Tinubu stated.

The President further commended Onwubuariri for his service across three administrations, acknowledging it as a testament to his competence, integrity, and enduring dedication to national service. He lamented that the loss of this diligent and experienced journalist is a significant blow to the Presidential Villa, the media fraternity, and the nation at large. Tinubu expressed his condolences to Onwubuariri's family, praying for strength during this difficult time and eternal peace for the departed soul.
