They played for Celtic – Pierce O’Leary

Irish defender Pierce O'Leary signed for Celtic in November 1984 after a reported £50,000 deal from Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps. The Dublin-born centre back, who had already earned seven caps for the Republic of Ireland national team, was eager to make a significant impact at the highest level of football. Pierce's debut for Celtic came on 30th January 1985, during a 2-1 Scottish Cup victory at Hamilton Accies, and he would go on to win the Scottish Cup in his first season with the club.

Pierce's contributions to Celtic were further cemented the following year when he was instrumental in helping the team secure the league title in a dramatic last-day victory at Love Street. In the following campaign, he was tasked with leading the side in his brother David's testimonial against Arsenal, a moment that undoubtedly held great significance for both Pierce and the O'Leary family.

Pierce scored his first goal for Celtic in a 1-0 win over St Mirren in late November 1986, but a challenging campaign followed for the club, culminating in a resounding 4-1 defeat against Dundee at Dens Park.

Despite facing injury issues, Pierce continued to play for Celtic until the end of the 1987/88 season. However, his career was cut short due to persistent injury problems, and he eventually retired from football, opting to pursue a business career in Scotland. Throughout his time at Celtic, Pierce made 51 appearances and scored one goal for the club.
