Menteri Pelaburan, Perdagangan dan Industri, Johari Ghani has urged Malaysian companies to swiftly implement automation in their operations, citing a decline in the availability of foreign workers in the future. Speaking to reporters following the inauguration of the AI, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Economy Forum, Johari emphasized the importance of encouraging businesses of all sizes - micro, small or simple - to embrace automation as soon as possible.

Foreign workers have been brought in to handle labor-intensive, hazardous, and tough tasks, rather than to replace local workers. Johari stressed the need to treat local workers fairly, as their lives differ significantly from those of foreign workers. He also called upon employers who claim locals are unwilling to work to re-examine their proposals.

If offered the minimum wage, these workers might decline due to an unclear economic value. Johari noted that Malaysians are willing to move to Singapore for work as they perceive economic benefits there.
