State closes case against Kwabena Adu-Boahene and two others

The State has concluded its case against Kwabena Adu-Boahene and two others in the trial concerning a reported loss of GH¢49.1 million to the state. Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai announced the development on Facebook on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The prosecution contends that Adu-Boahene allegedly used deceptive methods to acquire the funds from a state agency, along with his wife and their company, and subsequently spent the money.

The accused have been charged with theft, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the Republic. Justice Srem-Sai stated that Adu-Boahene's primary defense was that the money was not intended for himself, his family, or friends, but for the purchase of a cyber defense system for the state agency. Prosecution presented four witnesses to bolster its case.

The first witness, Adu-Boahene's family driver, testified about transporting large sums of money for the couple and their associates. The second witness, the Head of Finance of the state agency, provided testimony on the agency's financial procedures and the absence of a cyber defense system being ordered. The third witness, an employee handling Adu-Boahene's personal and business affairs, described how the money was allegedly spent through their company and other entities.

The fourth witness, an EOCO investigator, presented evidence including cheques and deposit slips allegedly used for the transfer of the funds, as well as incorporation documents and bank statements related to the accused persons. The court has granted the accused until September 25 to submit their response of no case to answer, with the State expected to respond within 14 days. The trial has been adjourned to November 5, 2026.
