SIX, owner of the Spanish Stock Exchange, has unveiled a new European data platform called SIX Market Signal to make market data more accessible and affordable to both institutional investors and retail traders. This platform provides real-time and historical data, allowing institutions to broaden their access to market data across various user groups within their organization. For retail clients, it offers direct access to real-time market data from European exchanges for the first time.
The data platform is fueled by a pan-European market data flow, covering Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the 16 European markets serviced by Aquis Exchange, which SIX acquired in 2025. SIX Market Signal displays the best bid and ask prices in real-time, drawing data from SIX Swiss Exchange order books, BME Exchange in Spain, as well as markets in the UK, the European Union, and Switzerland.
Access to the fastest prices is only possible through direct feeds, typically used by market makers and execution desks. The platform also includes historical and intraday data products and promises to expand its dataset offerings over time. Retail investors will benefit from high-quality market data that balances cost and speed for their everyday trading needs.
Under the 1BBO umbrella, SIX aims to level the playing field for retail investors, ensuring equal conditions for all. Retail users of the new service have full license rights to utilize the data, enabling institutional investors, fintech companies, banks, and brokers to integrate SIX Market Signal into a wide array of use cases without restrictive conditions or complex limitations.
The platform utilizes viaNexus technology for real-time data distribution, permission management, cloud API delivery, and integration into quantitative and AI workflows.
SIX Market Signal is already available to institutional investors. Retail investors in Switzerland can subscribe immediately, with plans for future expansions to retail clients across the European Union and the United Kingdom. According to Santiago Ximenez, head of Data & Connectivity at SIX Exchanges, the platform removes barriers to accessing high-quality broker data in European capital markets, enabling a broader set of market participants to access reliable and timely price information, facilitating informed decision-making.
