Sindh Announces New School Timings Across Province

Sindh's Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has introduced a one-hour reduction in school hours across the province due to extreme heat. Addressing an event in Karachi, Shah revealed the lack of a consistent policy to tackle the issues students face during intense weather conditions. He highlighted that children are compelled to attend classes in temperatures soaring up to 52°C, with some studying outdoors due to the absence of adequate roofs and basic facilities in numerous schools.

Shah emphasized that subjecting children to study in such high temperatures underscores the subpar state of the education system and stressed the urgency of addressing their concerns promptly. He further advocated for schools to be furnished with proper roofs and other necessary facilities to safeguard students from extreme weather.

Shah stressed that providing adequate shelter and basic facilities at schools is crucial for protecting children from severe heat. He also urged for increased funding for education from the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), which allocates Rs. 1,200 billion annually, suggesting a greater allocation towards the education sector.
