Secretary-General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs meets First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan

Since 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has played a crucial role in the repatriation and evacuation of over 6,936 Ghanaians who found themselves in difficult situations abroad, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed. Initially, the government, in collaboration with its international partners, successfully brought back 4,972 Ghanaians from various countries such as Libya, Cambodia, and Kuwait. However, this number increased to 6,936 upon the recent evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians from South Africa.

During a media briefing on Monday, Mr. Ablakwa announced these numbers in a social media post on Tuesday, September 8. "Since 2025, we have collectively repatriated 4,972 Ghanaians in distress from multiple countries, including Libya, Cambodia, and Kuwait," he stated. "Adding the recent evacuations from South Africa of 1,964 Ghanaians, we have successfully returned home 6,936 of our fellow citizens."

The minister emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Ghanaian citizens, regardless of their location. "We shall always rise to the challenge and protect the dignity and welfare of Ghanaians everywhere in the world," Mr. Ablakwa affirmed. He concluded by highlighting that the welfare of a single Ghanaian threatened abroad is equivalent to the protection of all.
