Rassie explains flyhalf selection: 'Sacha is not far off and Manie can do a great job off the bench'

Rassie Erasmus has praised Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu's potential to rekindle his form and praised Manie Libbok's ability to contribute off the bench during Saturday's Greatest Rivalry finale in Baltimore. Feinberg-Mngomezulu has started all three Tests against the All Blacks but has not yet returned to the electrifying form he exhibited in 2025, while Libbok made a significant impact off the bench in the previous week's 29-24 victory in Soweto.

Nevertheless, Erasmus opted to maintain consistency ahead of the series decider. Erasmus emphasized that Handre Pollard, who is fit and available, might play against Australia due to continuity's importance. Erasmus highlighted Feinberg-Mngomezulu's unique skills, particularly in the opening exchanges, given the All Blacks' tendency to start aggressively.

He acknowledged that Feinberg-Mngomezulu is not at his peak but stressed that the young flyhalf is still finding his feet after an extended injury lay-off. Libbok's bench presence was also underscored, with the flyhalf capable of stepping in early in case of an injury or having a more substantial role towards the end of the game.

With the Boks just one win away from claiming the series 3-1, Erasmus resisted altering the match-day squad that has delivered consecutive victories over New Zealand. Erasmus believes the team is settled and that selecting the same squad, including Damian in his regular position, is a sensible choice for the final match of the series.

Erasmus anticipates the All Blacks to exert all their efforts to force a series draw, knowing full well the intensity of the challenge they face.
