President Lee vows to pursue peace on Korean Peninsula through dialogue based on firm deterrence

President Lee Jae Myung pledged on Tuesday to persist in promoting peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue grounded in robust deterrence. The South Korean leader delivered these remarks in a video address for the inaugural Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD), emphasizing the necessity for enhanced security collaboration amidst unprecedented and intricate global security concerns.

Lee affirmed that his government remains steadfast in striving for peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity on the Korean Peninsula via trust and dialogue anchored in firm deterrence. He further disclosed that South Korea is endeavoring to expand the scope of dialogue on peace and prosperity through mutual respect and cooperation, leveraging its autonomous defense capabilities.

Lee highlighted the ongoing confrontations and armed conflicts worldwide, as well as the erosion of the global nuclear nonproliferation regime, which has been instrumental in maintaining global peace for several decades. He also pointed out the rapid advancements in technologies, such as artificial intelligence, which are reshaping the international landscape.
