PM calls for AI-driven administrative innovation

SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- Prime Minister Han Seong-sook has directed the interior ministry to swiftly establish a system that allows public servants to fully utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in their duties and spur administrative innovation, according to wire material. As AI increasingly permeates people's daily lives, Han believes the AI transition in the public sector should be undertaken urgently and with boldness.

Front-line officials are already employing AI in their work, and this success should extend throughout the entire administration. To achieve this, senior officials must gain a deeper understanding of AI, enabling AI-driven administrative innovation to thrive, Han stated. The interior ministry and associated agencies are urged to expedite the creation of a system in which public officials can independently develop and employ AI in their work, share outcomes, and receive rewards.

Additionally, Han called on ministers to ensure comprehensive AI training for all personnel within each ministry and to offer significant incentives for exemplary practices to hasten government innovation. Han expressed her commitment to making 2027 a year when AI-driven government operations commence in earnest.
