Pisa 2025: Sains, bacaan meningkat tetapi matematik merosot

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's student achievements in Science and reading have improved in the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) 2025 report presented by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Fadhlina noted that the country's performance in Science rose by three points to 419, while reading increased by five points to 393.

In contrast, Mathematics declined by 11 points to 397. Fadhlina acknowledged these advancements as positive, especially considering that the national average in reading also decreased compared to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) average. "The achievements of Malaysian students in Science have improved.

The achievements in reading have also increased, while the OECD average shows a decline. This is progress that we should cherish," she said during a media briefing on Pisa 2025 results at the Ministry of Education (MOE). However, Fadhlina emphasized that the decline in Mathematics requires more serious attention and should not be viewed as a mere change in one cycle of assessment.

"Our Mathematics achievement has decreased, and this decline cannot be seen as an isolated change. It must make us look at this issue more seriously, not defensively," she added. In the Problem Solving Computational domain, Fadhlina said Malaysia scored 484 points, putting the country among six nations that exceeded expectations.

She said Pisa 2025 results also showed that Malaysian students felt they received strong support from teachers, which she described as a positive development to be strengthened in the education system. However, Fadhlina noted that parental support for children's learning showed a decline. "For me, this is not about blaming anyone.

It is about listening to what children need from the adults around them," she said. Fadhlina said MOE will investigate Pisa 2025 results by domain first, while the overall Malaysia standing will be announced later.
