Persona 1 and 2 remakes are something Atlus will 'probably eventually do', which is great, but the PS2-era Shin Megami Tensei games are sitting right there

Atlus may eventually remake their iconic Persona 1 and 2 games, according to series producer Kazuhisa Wada, as shared in a new interview with Rock Paper Shotgun. Wada views a remaster or remake as a form of cultural preservation, ensuring that beloved creations remain accessible to modern audiences. The Persona 1 and 2 games, released in 1996, have already enjoyed some reissues, including a 2009 PlayStation Portable release and an older PC port.

These games feature a unique social links system, which was introduced in Persona 3 and is considered a standout feature of the series.

While Persona games may not require full-scale remakes, reissues with minor improvements would be appreciated, especially if the goal is to preserve these titles. Wada's statement leaves open the possibility of reviving other Shin Megami Tensei games, which remain locked to older consoles. Games like Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, which is available with a mod to unlock its 30 fps lock, and Raidou: Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, which has undergone a thorough remake, could be prime candidates for reissues.

Digital Devil Saga and its sequel, as well as Shin Megami Tensei 4, remain notably absent from any reissue plans. The latter is an exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS, while the former two games are available on the PC. Given Atlus' success with PC ports of other games, such as Shin Megami Tensei 5, it seems plausible that these PS2-era titles could also be given the same treatment.

Ultimately, the order in which these reissues take place would be up to Atlus, but the writer's plea is clear: prioritize Shin Megami Tensei 4, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, and Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon before any other projects.
