Passport intervention: FG addresses UK complaints, denies extra charges

The Federal Government has clarified that Nigerians applying for international passports during the UK's special passport intervention exercise are not required to pay any additional fees beyond the approved official charges. This was announced by Alao Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Interior on Media and Publicity, on behalf of Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The intervention aimed to give Nigerians in the UK more opportunities to process their passport applications without introducing any new charges. The passport fees remain at $150 for a five-year validity and $230 for a ten-year validity, excluding any potential bank charges. Both the Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Immigration Service have not introduced any extra costs beyond these official fees.

Addressing concerns from Nigerians in the UK, the Ministry acknowledged the inconvenience experienced during the application and processing and is currently working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve these issues. The government remains committed to enhancing services for Nigerians both at home and abroad.
