Osun: APC legal team disowns petition challenging Gov Adeleke’s victory

The All Progressives Congress (APC) legal team in Osun State has rejected a petition allegedly submitted by the party to contest Governor Ademola Adeleke's triumph in the August 15 gubernatorial elections. Senior lawyer Adekunle Adegoke revealed that neither Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, nor the party sanctioned any petition prior to the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

He asserted that the legal team had counseled Oyebamiji against contesting the election results after deliberating over available options with him and other party leaders. The decision not to approach the tribunal aimed to mitigate political tensions and foster peace in Osun State. While the legal team acknowledged the possibility of election irregularities, they opted to avoid confrontation for the well-being of the populace.

Oyebamiji subsequently expressed his congratulations to Governor Adeleke willingly, which further disassociated him from any legal challenge. The controversy emerged following the presentation of two petitions at the Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo on Monday. One petition, attributed to Oyebamiji and the APC, while the other named the PDP as the petitioner, despite an earlier report that no petition had been lodged within the 21-day deadline.
