Ostapenko vents fury on opposing coach after heated US Open doubles clash

Jelena Ostapenko erupted at the coach of the Australian-Taiwanese tennis duo, Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching, during a US Open match. The incident occurred mid-game, after Ostapenko approached the chair umpire to demand action. Ostapenko, who had previously clashed with Taylor Townsend over perceived lack of class and education, accused the coach of sarcastically praising their shots while clapping and cheering at their mistakes.

Ostapenko, fluent in Chinese due to her language skills, conveyed her frustration to the umpire, labeling the coach's behavior "very disrespectful." Ostapenko and her Taiwanese partner, Hsieh Su-wei, prevailed in the match with scores of 6-4 and 6-4. In a fiery post-match exchange, Ostapenko shouted at the opposing box, while Hsieh and Chan did not engage in a handshaking gesture.

This is not the first time Ostapenko has been embroiled in a heated argument during a match; last year at the US Open, she clashed with Townsend, accusing her of lacking class and education. Ostapenko later apologized, explaining that her choice of words had been misconstrued due to her non-native English proficiency.
