Oman sets EV charging fees from October, tariffs to reach 120 baisa per kWh

Oman will implement regulated charging fees for electric vehicles starting October 1, with costs ranging from 50 to 120 baisa per kilowatt-hour based on the charging station's capacity and speed. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology revealed the new tariff structure in collaboration with the Authority for Public Services Regulation and the Oman Net Zero Centre, as part of initiatives to manage Oman's expanding EV charging market.

Charging stations with a capacity of up to 90 kilowatts will incur a fee of 50 baisa per kWh, while stations with capacities between 91kW and 180kW will charge 90 baisa per kWh. For chargers with a capacity of 181kW or greater, the fee will be 120 baisa per kWh. The tariff system aims to enhance transparency for EV owners and users, while promoting the growth and long-term viability of Oman's charging infrastructure.

The rates were determined after a thorough examination of the economic and operational factors influencing EV charging stations, balancing affordability for motorists with the need for stations to remain economically viable and attractive to investors. This initiative is part of Oman's larger strategy to form a regulated electric mobility ecosystem as the nation expands electric vehicle infrastructure and pursues its long-term net-zero goals.
