‘NPP should stop being hypocritical’ – Nukpenu fires over demand for evacuation cost

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Anthony Nukpenu, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for demanding detailed information on the procurement process for the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa. Nukpenu made these remarks on Adom TV Badwam, questioning why the NPP was seeking detailed procurement information when similar concerns had been raised during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He pointed out that the NPP was previously able to account for COVID-19 pandemic procurement, even though it was an emergency situation. Nukpenu accused the NPP of applying different standards to procurement during emergency situations, urging the party to stop being hypocritical. He also mentioned the procurement of Sputnik V vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic, questioning the explanations provided by the then Health Minister.

Nukpenu stressed that while emergency situations may require swift action, the decisions and transactions involved must still be documented and independently verified. He appealed to the NPP Minority to wait for the Auditor-General's assessment before drawing conclusions about the procurement process, urging them to remain calm and await the Auditor-General's report.
