Nintendo's stunning Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake looks like a childhood dream come true

Nintendo's 40th Anniversary Direct showcased several exciting updates for its flagship franchise, The Legend of Zelda. The highlight was the announcement of the remastered version of Ocarina of Time, set to launch on November 5th. This remastered edition will take full advantage of the enhanced graphics capabilities of the upcoming Switch 2 console, which will be released a week earlier on October 29th. The Switch 2 will also come with a special edition controller and carrying case, designed to fit the theme of the game.

In addition to the remastered game, Nintendo revealed plans for an official ocarina, an instrument used by the game's protagonist, Link. The ocarina will be available in both traditional acoustic and electric versions, with the electric model created by Hori. Fans can expect two versions of the ocarina, allowing them to experience the game's music in different ways.

To enhance the gameplay experience, the new Switch 2 version of Ocarina of Time will feature improved controls. Players will have access to analog sticks, replacing the automatic jumping mechanic from the original game. Additionally, players can hum the ocarina tune, and the game's microphone will recognize the sound, completing the input to activate the song. The remastered edition will also include updated visual designs for characters and fully voiced cutscenes, bringing the story to life in a more immersive way.

Nintendo has included a new feature called Zelda Notes for first-time players who may get lost or confused in the game. This feature, available through the Nintendo Switch app, provides progress tracking, hints on in-game locations, and other helpful information. Before diving into the remastered game, fans can also pick up the special edition Switch 2 console, featuring a design inspired by the game itself. The console, along with its Pro Controller and carrying case, will be sold separately.

Other announcements at the event included details about a film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, scheduled for release on April 30, 2027. Additionally, a 40th anniversary concert series featuring the game's music will take place in Japan and the U.S., starting in January and February, respectively. Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures are also set to be released later this year.

While Nintendo has not officially announced a price for the remastered Ocarina of Time, the digital version is expected to cost $60. The physical version is rumored to be $70, but this listing was quickly removed by Nintendo.
