NCoS, army partner to boost prison security, intelligence sharing

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC) have pledged to strengthen their partnership to enhance intelligence sharing, improve security in correctional facilities, and tackle broader national security concerns. This commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by a NAIC delegation led by the Chief of Military Intelligence, Major General R.E.

Hedima, to the NCoS headquarters in Abuja. NCoS Controller-General, Sylvester Nwakuche, highlighted that the collaboration is crucial in light of evolving security challenges which necessitate closer coordination and timely intelligence-sharing between agencies. The NCoS is currently responsible for approximately 81,000 inmates, of whom roughly 65% are awaiting trial and over 4,000 are on death row.

Major General Hedima emphasized the importance of adapting to the ever-changing tactics of threat actors, advocating for joint training of personnel, the appointment of specialized intelligence focal officers, and continuous exchange of actionable intelligence.
