Napoli provide update on Scott McTominay after undergoing heart surgery in Manchester

Napoli has announced that midfielder Scott McTominay has successfully undergone heart surgery to address a mild benign arrhythmia. The 29-year-old Scot had the ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Serie A club. McTominay, who previously played for Manchester United, is expected to return to action following the upcoming international break and resume training after a two-week rest period.

The Scotland international revealed during a recent awards ceremony that he had planned the surgery for some time. McTominay's absence has seen him miss Napoli's recent 3-2 loss to Inter Milan and will keep him sidelined for three more matches, including their UEFA Champions League opener against Arsenal on Wednesday. Max Allegri hopes to have McTominay available for their match against Frosinone on October 10, their first game after the international break.

Napoli currently sits 12th in the standings, six points behind leaders AS Roma. The club's sporting director, Giovanni Manna, addressed the uncertainty surrounding McTominay's future, stating that both parties are open to extending his contract, though finalizing the deal may not be straightforward.
