NAAPE, NDLEA Move to Strengthen Aviation Sector’s Role in Combating Drug Trafficking

The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has pledged to assist the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in its mission to curb illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse within Nigeria's aviation sector. NAAPE President Captain Bunmi Gindeh highlighted the critical role pilots and engineers play in ensuring flight safety and national security during a meeting with NDLEA Chairman and CEO Brigadier-General Mohamed Marwa (Rtd) in Abuja.

Gindeh emphasized that the fight against narcotics and aviation safety were inextricably linked, stating that licensed pilots and maintenance engineers operate at critical points in aviation operations. Both sides discussed ways to bolster the partnership, including organizing joint awareness sessions for aviation professionals, establishing confidential reporting channels, developing prevention programs, and enhancing professional education.

NAAPE President Gindeh commended NDLEA's efforts in combating drug trafficking and suggested that aviation professionals serve as a vital line of defense against illicit activities at airports and within the aviation industry.
