Mumbai Weather Update: Light Showers, Gusty Winds Lash City; No IMD Alert For The Week

Mumbai experienced light rain, overcast skies, and gusty winds on Tuesday as monsoon conditions persisted across the city and suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast intermittent showers and thundershowers throughout the day, though no rainfall alert was issued for Mumbai this week. The city and suburbs were expected to have partly cloudy skies with occasional light rain.

Wind speeds were anticipated to reach 40-50 kmph, with gusts potentially hitting 50-60 kmph during stronger weather spells. The maximum temperature was projected to be around 33°C, while the minimum temperature was 29°C in the early morning hours. Despite the active monsoon, Mumbai faced a significant rainfall deficit in August, receiving 66% less rainfall than usual, attributed to El Nino-related weather patterns.

However, the overall annual rainfall tally remains positive, with the city having accumulated about 96% of its average annual precipitation. Commuters might face brief disruptions in heavily rain-soaked areas and during gusty wind episodes, particularly during the week. Mumbai's air quality remained good on Tuesday morning, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 21, which falls in the "Good" range.
