Manitoba opens temporary Dauphin emergency department after flood damage

Manitoba has established a temporary emergency department at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre following devastating flood damage. Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced the reopening of the department by Labour Day, noting that it is a significant achievement, though there remains much work to be done. The temporary department is providing round-the-clock services, including X-ray, ultrasound, and lab services.

The department is operating using temporary power, water, and other infrastructure. Extensive flooding in early July had shut down the hospital and forced the evacuation of all patients. A mobile CT scan unit is expected to arrive within weeks, but there is no timeline for restoring services like surgery and endoscopy. Another storm hit the region, leaving many residents without electricity, and city firefighters are going door-to-door to ensure the well-being of those affected.
