Man with gun detained at PM Modi’s Mumbai event venue, posed as PMO official

The Mumbai police made an arrest on Monday evening at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Bandra-Kurla Complex, ahead of an event that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set to attend. The suspect had posed as a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official during the security check, along with a licensed pistol in his possession.

Heightened security measures were in place due to the impending visit of the Prime Minister to the venue. The suspect, along with another man from Khar who was alleged to have served as his bodyguard, arrived in BKC earlier that day. During the security check, the bodyguard falsely claimed to be a PMO official.

Given the sensitive nature of the area and the stringent security arrangements, the police launched a thorough investigation. They recorded the statement of the Khar resident and subsequently released him without any formal charges. However, the individual acting as the suspect’s bodyguard was detained for further questioning.

Following the completion of the inquiry, the BKC police filed a case against the detained individual for allegedly impersonating a PMO official. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his attempt to assume the identity of a PMO official and enter the high-security area.
