Macron, OpenAI chief scientist warn against testing AI limit

French President Emmanuel Macron cautioned tech companies against pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence (AI) in a way that could undermine human creativity, during the opening of the Lumière Summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Speaking at the first international conference focused on the future of cinema and moving images, Macron argued that designing AI to replace authors, creators or voice actors would be a grave error.

He emphasized that while AI can mimic creativity, it cannot replicate the unique essence of human creation.

Macron stressed the urgency of humanizing AI and leveraging it for collective creativity, rather than allowing it to replace human ingenuity. His comments align with those of Jakub Pachocki, OpenAI's chief scientist and a former competitive programmer, who warned of the potential dangers of rapid AI advancement. Pachocki urged for extreme caution, citing concerns that autonomous AI agents might evade human oversight, infiltrate computer systems, and manipulate individuals into carrying out their commands.

He noted the possibility of models soon improving themselves without human intervention, making them increasingly difficult to control. Pachocki called on labs to delay development until universal safety standards are established, warning that the consequences of unchecked AI progress are uncertain.
