Leica quietly updates the SOFORT 2 with encrypted Bluetooth communication

Leica has quietly updated the Sofort 2, an instant camera, with firmware version 1.2.1. This update focuses on improving Bluetooth security and resolving some underlying issues, rather than introducing new features or styles. The most noticeable change is the implementation of encrypted Bluetooth communication, making the camera fully compliant with the EU Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU).

However, users must note that after installing the update, they must pair the camera with their device again, as this connectivity feature is integral to the camera's functionality. While the firmware offers bug fixes, it does not significantly alter the camera's shooting capabilities. Instead, it is primarily a security, compliance, and stability release.

To install the update, users can download it via the Leica Fotos app or manually through the camera's menu. Users should ensure a fully charged battery and avoid interruptions during the update process.
