LAMATA’s Bold Vision in Building Seamless Connections for Lagos Commuters

The ambitious vision for Lamata's infrastructure projects in Lagos aims to create seamless connections for commuters, transforming the city's transport landscape. Both the Marina and Mile 2 interchange projects are on schedule to be completed by the second quarter of 2027. These interchanges will serve as intermodal hubs, integrating the Blue Line rail, BRT, regular buses, and water transport.

Complementing the interchanges, the Lagos State Government's QBC (Quick Bus Corridors) project is upgrading key road corridors, including junctions, traffic signals, and 91 bus stops, with new terminals.

Construction began in July 2024, with coordination challenges particularly faced at Marina, where joint planning meetings have been held to minimize delays. Over 600 property owners at Mile 2 were affected by compensation, which was handled transparently. Funding and timing have been managed through strong collaboration with the Lagos State Government and the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD).

The interchanges are crucial to the STMP (Transit System Modernization Project), creating a unified network where rail, road, and water transport work together efficiently. Once complete, these hubs will encourage more residents to use public transport, reducing traffic congestion, emissions, and stimulating commerce and social activity around transport corridors.

The upgrades to the QBC corridors, such as improved junctions, traffic signals, and new bus terminals, will work in tandem with the interchanges, providing high-capacity buses direct access to the hubs. This will result in shorter travel times, less waiting, and more reliable transport for commuters. The ultimate goal is a journey that is faster, easier, safer, and more predictable for Lagosians, from their homes to their destinations.
