Kwankwaso condemns blockade of Obi’s convoy

National Democratic Congress Vice Presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has strongly condemned the blockade of Peter Obi's convoy as it traveled to Benue State. Kwankwaso, in a post on his official X account, described the act as a threat to democracy and demanded that the Benue State Government identify and prosecute those responsible.

He argued that the incident marked a "dark day for our democracy" and emphasized that every citizen, including Obi, has the constitutional right to freedom of movement. Kwankwaso urged the President to caution state governors against actions that could undermine democratic values. He also called on the international community to take note of the incident and encourage Nigerian authorities to uphold the rule of law and protect opposition leaders.

Earlier reports indicated that Obi had been prevented from proceeding in Benue after protesters barricaded Gboko Road in Makurdi, the state capital, disrupting traffic and holding his convoy back for hours. Obi had traveled to the state to mourn the victims of killings but was stopped on the orders of a government aide, accusing the protesters of exploiting hungry, insecure youths for political gain.
