War in Ukraine: Help from Europe for Ukrainian air defense
Europe has heeded Kyiv's long plea. With an exception and a further €3.2 billion, the EU wants to support Ukraine in protecting its airspace.
The European Union will allow Ukraine to use new financial aid to purchase US-made Patriot air defense missiles. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that member states have agreed to an exception to the usual rule that EU defense aid should prioritize European-made military equipment. The Ukraine will receive €3.2 billion in financial aid, which will help the country protect its airspace from Russian attacks.
Germany and the UK have also pledged additional support, including missiles and ammunition, to help Ukraine defend against Russian ballistic missiles.
