Kidnapping: Kogi govt launches workplace security sensitisation for workers

The Kogi State Government has initiated a security awareness campaign across 21 local government areas to promote vigilance among workers and protect their jobs and welfare. This program, themed "Workplace Security: Protection, Sensitisation and Preparedness Against Banditry and Kidnapping," kicked off in Okene Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event in Okene, Comrade Onuh Edoka, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, emphasized the campaign's aim to educate workers on vigilance, readiness, and workplace security. Edoka also urged workers to prioritize informed decisions, especially ahead of the 2027 general elections, and cautioned against the "politics of mischief".

The Kogi State Government's recent security measures have reportedly fostered a secure environment and industrial harmony across the state, according to Edoka. Edoka reiterated that while government provides leadership and resources, collective responsibility and political will are crucial for comprehensive security. The NULGE chairmen of Okene and Ogori-Magongo LGAs, Comrades Yakubu Ishaq and Alabi Shole, respectively, praised the campaign and committed to achieving its objectives at the grassroots.

The Vice Chairman of Ogori-Magongo LGA, Mr. Williams, highlighted organised labour as a reliable ally in democracy, advocating for ongoing engagement between government and workers. Kogi State NLC Chairman, Comrade Gabriel Amari, deemed the initiative timely, urging workers to maintain a positive relationship with the government and support their progressive administration.
