Jio Targets September 2027 Test Launch For 1,600-Satellite LEO Network

Reliance Jio is planning to test launch satellites for its proposed 1,600-satellite low Earth orbit (LEO) network in September 2027, aiming to begin commercial deployment in early 2028. The test launch will involve deploying a few satellites to assess network hardware, software, and technologies, with a target of deploying 400-450 satellites by 2030 and completing the full constellation by 2035.

Jio has also applied to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the required orbital resources. Once operational, the network will provide high-throughput satellite broadband, focusing initially on India and expanding globally. Jio's move follows its partnership with Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES through Jio Space Technology Limited. The development comes as Jio Platforms prepares for its IPO, reportedly targeting November.
