Jeff McNeil legs out winning single, lifts A’s to 6-5 victory over Blue Jays

West Sacramento, Calif. (AP) — In a thrilling finish to Monday night's game, Jeff McNeil's infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning proved to be the decisive play as the Athletics triumphed over the Toronto Blue Jays with a final score of 6-5. The A's had previously succumbed to a four-run lead, but McNeil's crucial single in the critical inning drove in the winning run.

Prior to this game, the Athletics had been on a five-game losing streak, but they managed to turn things around, winning five of their last six matches. Rookie Henry Bolte showcased his talent by hitting a home run and scoring three runs from the leadoff spot, while Andrés Giménez contributed with a solo homer in the ninth inning.

Toronto, the Blue Jays, finished the game with nine hits, outperforming the A's 9-6, but they were not enough to secure the win. By allowing Donovan Walter to score the inning's run, Varland ultimately sealed the A's victory. Looking ahead, the Texas Rangers are now just 1 1/2 games behind the Guardians, while the Baltimore Orioles trail by three games. The Orioles secured a 6-4 victory over the Guardians in Baltimore on Monday.
