Hungary orders 10 Russian diplomats to leave the country over activities deemed unacceptable

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hungary has ordered 10 Russian diplomats to leave the country due to activities deemed unacceptable for diplomats, according to Foreign Minister Anita Orbán. The Russian ambassador was informed that the alleged activities violated the Vienna Convention, an international treaty governing diplomatic conduct.

Orbán stressed that this decision aims to protect Hungary's security and sovereignty, but also emphasized that it does not imply the breaking off of diplomatic relations with Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry vowed to provide "an appropriate response" to the expulsions, but did not elaborate on the specifics. The move comes as Hungary's new Prime Minister Peter Magyar seeks to end the country's pro-Russia policies, following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Viktor Orbán, who had a closer relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
